Bummer When a Site Goes Down

by Frank Roche on August 4, 2007

I check the stats on KnowHR Blog (or, as it’s now called, “WordPress >> Error”) every day. So, bummer when I go to look at this site this morning and see some error message telling me this:

WP Error

WTF? I mean, I looked over my wp-config.php file. Nothing’s changed since last night when the site was up and running. The username and password are the same as when I went to sleep. I ran a diagnostic on the DB server and it looks like it’s running. So now what?

I submitted a Help Desk Ticket to my hosting service. And I sent an e-mail to Charlie to see if he could help. I’m pretty good with this stuff, but I’m not sure what happens when your average blogger, who just wants to write a little and not poke around under the hood, finds a problem like this. I’m sure it will get resolved in the next 24 hours, but if I was just getting started, I’d quit over something like this.

Wow. I have heard Word press has some problems at first but they work them out. Software is a snafu at time. Don’t give up, the answer is there and you’ll get it.

Got it back up after a back-and-forth with tech support. They had to restart the SQL server. Ugh. I seriously wonder what would happen to someone who was just blogging for fun. I guess that’s why Blogger is so popular….it really is a turnkey.

And for someone pretty non-tech like me; it just works. :-) Glad all is fixed!
