Separate but Equal Isn’t

The mayor of San Diego explains in emotional detail why separate but equal isn’t when it comes to the difference between marriage and a civil union. The video is 5 minutes long. Go ahead and try to watch that and not tear up.

Just as a reference, there are over 200 major difference between a marriage and a civil union in the eyes of the Federal government. You can read about the differences here.

    As someone who is legally domestically partnered (ain’t that a mouthful)in the state of New Jersey, I am well aware of the differences between civil unions/ domestic partnerships and marriages.

    Goddamn, but some people can hitch up in that sacred institution of marriage six, seven, or eight times – while those of us who are gay and are in committed relationships can’t get anything more than a few bones thrown our way.

    And why is that?

    Because, if you boil it all down, the politicians are afraid to upset the religious goof-balls who think that being gay is an abomination (though blowing up women’s clinics is not – go figure).

    What ever happened to separation of church and state?

    Great going San Diego!! Very emotional and beautiful. His daughter is lucky to have a father that could accept her and embrace others. A very brave man!
