Chicken and Biscuits Take Me to My Happy Place
If I ever have to have a last meal, it’s going to be Sheryl’s chicken and biscuits followed by her taffy apple salad.
So, imagine my delight when I arrived home last night to find Sheryl up to her elbows in chicken and biscuit preparation. Delight, I say. Although it’s a family favorite, imported all the way from Iowa, we have it only once or twice a year. (That’s what keeps it special.) And the last time Sheryl made it, I was on my No Bread for Lent jag. Can you say disappointed?
We were all talking about chicken and biscuits on the day after Mother’s Day, when our taffy apple salad was the hit of the group dinner with a lot of friends. (Someone asked me, what in this? I said, “Apples. They’re healthy. And to balance that out, we threw in chopped up Snickers Bars and coated that in whipped cream and vanilla pudding.” Everyone agreed it was the best idea ever.) While we were having the last of the taffy apple salad, we joked about chicken and biscuits. Volia! there it was last night.
At about 8:30 last night. I passed out in my chair. Missed who got eliminated from American Idol. Didn’t matter. I was a happy boy. Chicken and biscuits took me to my happy place.

Hi, it's me, the guy whose name is at the top of the page. I'm on the left doing my best impression of Mr. Magoo. Those are my boys Steve and Matt. They're a lot bigger than me now, but I like this picture from last summer, so I'm going with it.
I must know more about this taffy apple salad of which you write!
Sounds like heaven! I miss my dad’s fried chicken, buttermilk biscuits, country gravy, corn and ‘taters.
Marisa, it might make a good Quick Fork. I’ll send it to you.
Pinky Bear, that’s the way. Maybe we’ll have to have a cookout at our house and have you guys over…out of the city and all, but it IS chicken and biscuits!
Wow, I’ve had the pleasure of eating (and preparing) both of these delicacies. I could literally taste them going down my throat as your described them, ala Violet Beuregard’s gum! Add a little slosh or cauliflower salad and it would be the perfect meal!! Hope Sheryl is planning to put it on the menu in December..yummy!!
Oh god, please send my some of the apple salad, pronto!!!!!
Tami, and I have sampled those delicacies from your table. Tremendous. We were talking about this over breakfast…yep, chicken and biscuits, taffy apple salad, and slosh. It’ll be on the Christmas menu.
Pax…I have to tell you, it’s tremendous. I want more! More, I say!
