Hello, Mr. Lubner

My back didn’t get magically better, so I went to the chiropractor today. It’s good news. See those things that can go wrong with your spine? None of them apply to me. No, I have something stuck in one.

Seems that I have a nerve pinched in my lower spine. And when it gets pinched, it causes the surrounding muscles to spasm. Which causes the nerve to get more inflamed. Which causes the muscles to spasm. Get the idea?

So, I have to go for 9 treatments. My first one today started with an adjustment, then electronic muscle stimulation, followed by a “cold” laser and then ice. Lots of ice.

Looks like I should end up ok. The doc told me that it’ll all of a sudden be okay, that the trapped nerve will rotate out when the spine is able to open up, then voila!

I hope so. I’m a baby when I’m hurt. But I must admit that the homebound service has been world class.

Glad to hear that there is a light at the end of the tunnel of pain.
  • Yep, looks like a winner. I'm usually the guy who waits until his spine is collapsed before going, but this time I decided I needed some help. I was right. Yay.

Great to hear that your back problem is fixable. So many are not. Here's hoping for speedy success and that your caregiver has the strength to preserver throughout the treatment regimen.
  • Thanks, Marvin. I have to say I was glad it was a little thing...it hurts a lot but it's fixable. My wife's a regular Florence Nightengale, so that's a good thing.
  • I have nothing to add ... but since (according to the stats listed on your blog), I am the number one commenter I felt the need to comment ... hmmm. oh yeah. I used to go to a great chiropractor and then a few years back he was busted for insider trading.

    Feel better.
  • Pax, you're Number One with a Bullet, baby! You could simply not comment for a year and you'd still be on top. But I still appreciate the comment love.

Dang, that's too funny (I mean, tragic) about your chiro. This guy I'm going to is a real pro. And a rock, man. As in, he's a handsome version of The Rock. If someone's gonna be cracking my back. I want him to be able to shove the big man around. ;-)
  • Speedy recovery!
  • Thank you...I'm being lazy right now and staying reclined...hopefully the treatment tomorrow will be the breakthrough.
  • oh man. I totally know how you feel. Totally been there. The chiropractor will get you al fixed up. Take care :)
  • Moni, I'm super glad ot hear you've had success with this route. I didn't want to go to an MD, which just ends up with meds or surgery. Hoping this thing gets readjusted, then wham, I'm back feeling well. Thanks for the good wishes.

Sorry about the back Frank. You know I have made the mistake of continuing on after feeling something go and have now learned to just shut it down and recover. It did take me 54 years to finally figure that out. I've also had good success with the chiroprator (neck pain) so hope your treatment gets you back standing upright.
  • Hey Tuna, as I've gotten older I've felt like I'm more likely to at least get things checked out. I'm glad I did with this one. I have a hunch it'll just work out magically with a little treatment. I have another tomorrow morning. so I'll give you an update. Right now I'm still feeling not so hot.
  • I used chiropracters for many years and found them helpful with my back pain.

Now let's talk about this obsession you have with the attractive Rock guy....
  • Okay, Day 2 down...I'm somewhat better. This must have been a pretty bad pinch, I somehow thought it was gonna go away with a single back crack.

The Rock? Man, it's cool when the D.C. looks like he does all the stuff. He's muscled up.
  • Good luck with your recovery!
  • Thank you...I think I should be there already, so this is a bit of a surprise.
  • There is no doubt that you have a subluxation of the spine.
A spinal nerve is impinged and needs to be released.
Stay with your chiropractor. He knows what he is doing !
