Laundry and Physics

by Frank Roche on April 19, 2009

picture-7Matt: Hey, Mom, did you get my subtle hint about the laundry? I put my basket in the laundry room.
Sheryl: Yes, you could have put it in yourself.
Matt: I don’t know how to do laundry.
Me: You take physics, you could figure it out.
Matt: Physics is easy; laundry is hard.

Hard is what you choose to not want to do.

Frank, a true teen age moment. Love it.

Rick, what you wrote inspired a post today on KnowHR. It was a funny teenage moment. We boys have it way too easy in this house thanks to Sheryl.

I think we need to send Matt over to Mama Romano. She taught all of her children how to do laundry when we reached the ripe old age of 13. She'd spend the day explaining how to fill the washer, measure the soap, hot wash vs cold wash, how to work the dryer.

When she was done she'd ask, “Any questions, honey?”

Her spawn would answer, “No ma, I think I got it.”

“Good”, she'd smile, “Now don't ever expect me to do your laundry again, you've been taught.”

Wow…Mama Romano is an inspiration. We have it just a little too easy here with Sheryl..she brings home the bacon and fries it up in a pan. And does the laundry, too.

Matt's off to college here pretty soon. That's when he'll realize how lucky he had it.

Smiling about the lesson from Mama. That's the best.

The fully automatic washing machine (I remember a wringer-style washer in the house at one time) was a precious piece of equipment to my mom, and was not to be touched by ANYONE else, including my dad. Dad was a first-class mechanic, but he wasn't allowed to operate the washer. Personally, I'm glad to hand over the detergent to anyone else who wants a crack at the laundry.
