Communications

This ad cracked me up. At some point the Lingo Cops say, “You can’t just go around making up words.”

Word up.

Want your employees to understand you?

Don’t make up words.

Word out.

The Big Ask

by Frank Roche on June 7, 2012

in Communications

The Big Ask for today is that you engage in this meeting and share your feedback with the cross-functional team.

The Big Ask?

That phrase makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

The Big Ask for my barber: Please cut my hair.

And shave my neck.

Lemme hear the slap-slap-slap of the strop.

And never again hear the phrase The Big Ask.

At least I won’t have hair that can stand up on the back of my neck.

Joe Cocker Is No HR Communicator

I originally published this on KnowHR in June 2008. Four years ago and it still works!

*********************

Joe Cocker is a great singer, but, man, his articulation is abysmal. Check out the video above (email readers will have to click the link) to see what I mean. It’s one of the funniest videos I’ve ever seen.

Your HR communications need to be clear. Think Frank Sinatra, not Joe Cocker. You want your employees to understand the words, not make up words of their own. Misunderstood lyrics are funny, but they sure as heck are ineffective.

Tell Them the Truth

Tell them the truth.

That’s your One Sentence Master Class in Employee Communication.

All the rest is filler.

A Type of Idea

I am going to make a movie like this for one of my clients. They don’t know it yet, but it’s gonna be cool. I won’t be asking them to prom, but I will be using one of my many typewriters to snap out a message to employees.

And I have a few other typewriter ideas for HR communications as well.

Old is new.
