I Have That Kind of Luck

by Frank Roche on December 27, 2009

I dropped Sheryl, the boys, and Justine off at the airport yesterday. They were on their way to Sheryl’s family’s annual Christmas gathering. I was staying home. “Taking care of the animals.”

There was a huge rainstorm along the East Coast yesterday. When I drove those guys down there it was really pouring.

We got the bags out of the car. I kissed everyone goodbye. Told them to have fun. Then, right when I was about to click my heels and dance a little jig — the gig was up.

The front passenger window was down about four inches. I tried to put it up with the switch. Wouldn’t budge. I ran around to that side, opened the door, pushed the switch and pushed the window up. Nope. The window slid out of my hands and fell into the door panel.

Mind you, it was pouring rain. I ran over to my gang and told them the window broke. (The driver’s side window failed that way just a month ago, so I knew the deal.) They wanted to laugh. I think I could see a smirk on Sheryl’s face.

I drove home with the rain pelting me. I turned the heat and the radio all the way up.

Some people have easy lives. I have the kind that has me driving in a rainstorm with the window down. I have that kind of luck.

Did you consider parking in airport garage and taking the train home? I had to walk home in that crap a mile uphill.

I wasn't that clever. I kinda panicked and then was a complete idiot. I must admit I laughed a few times along the way when people would look over at me on 95 while I'm going 70 mph with the window down in a rainstorm. I wish I had done what you said…instead I mopped it out…I think it's fine.

Laurie, that is too freakin funny. That's what I felt like…some Debbie Downer driving in the rain. LOL.

The good news is that you are king of the castle for several days. I know how these annoying things can put a damper on the good news. Enjoy the time alone. As great as family is, a little alone time ain't so bad either.

I kinda like it….but then I like the rhythm of everyone here…so, I jest when I talk about a quiet house. I have it made.

Another day and another great adventure. Who would think that the window would fall completely down a candid camera moment for sure.

I have that kind of luck, too. I had to get home from Mexico last weekend during the biggest East Coast snow storm in a decade or more. Glad you're warm and dry now!

Tuna, it really was something out of Candid Camera. I mean, I looked like an idiot and didn't know what to do. So I drove off. Crazy.

Merci, that must have been an adventure. Heck, I would have stayed in Mexico…until about May. ;-)
