Day Eight SXSW 2010

by Frank Roche on March 20, 2010

First, I ate breakfast at Annie’s Cafe. It’s my favorite breakfast place in Austin.

I didn’t win a guitar on Day Eight, but I did go to a guitar show.

Then, I got to shake hands and talk to one of the best guitar players in the world: Robby Krieger of The Doors. He wrote Light My Fire and many of the The Doors best songs. He was crazy cool. That’s him in the middle.

After that, I went to a discussion of the making of When You’re Strange, which is the first documentary about The Doors. No, really, it’s the first. Robby and the producer of the movie told a lot of the back story. Jim Morrison had a degree in filmmaking from UCLA, and he had hundreds of hours of footage. The entire film is from 1966-1970 home movies. Crazy good. Here’s a snippet:

It’s a wrap. I’ll run it all down in a summary post. Pretty cool though: eight days of total creative indulgence. Wow.

I am a big fan of Jim Morrison & the Doors.I think “Light My Fire” was one of the best love songs ever written.

You’ll love that film when it comes out. That song is one of my faves, too. Although every once in a while I end up hearing the Jose Feliciano version…craziness.
