Channeling Divine

TDMJ as Divine

I’m no hair hopper, but I like Hairspray. The movie — the original — that is.

Last night Sheryl and I went to see The Divine Ms. Jimmi host a screening of John Waters’ Hairspray at the Trocadero. It was really a blast. The Divine Ms. Jimmi was in fine form and channeled Divine (much better looking if that’s okay to say), coming out at the start of the show in a house frock and at the end of the movie in her resplendent Roach Couture.

I was thinking that Hairspray could be the gay Rocky Horror Picture Show, with people getting up and dancing. (It would be fun to dance the Mashed Potato and do a few lines dances.) But then I remembered that Rocky Horror Picture Show is the gay Rocky Horror Picture Show, so that idea’s taken.

Funny side note: On the way home on the train, I wrote a Twitter post that said this. Blushing, I noticed my mistake and wrote down what I meant to say.

  • Lizarino, I do remember that. It's such a fun show! I haven't seen the new movie yet, but I think I'm going to this weekend. Should be fun to ave seen the original and then the new one back-to-back.

Hey Frank, remember that we went to Hairspray musical when we went to NY? The new movie will in the cinemas this Thursday. xx
  • Pax, it would have been great if you would have been there. Jimmi was really great...one of these shows one day.

That line from Hairspray made for lots of laughs in the house...lol.
  • I wish I could have been there, but we had some crap to attend to last night (long story).

Hairspray (the original), is a great film. One of my fave lines uttered by Divine, "It's the times Wilbur, there a-changing, some thing's blowing in the wind ... fetch me my diet pills, will ya' hon?"

I'll bet that Jimmi rocked the house!
  • You did super...and Sheryl will be very happy to hear that...I think so too.
  • Aww! Thanks! Screwing! Heheheee. It was great meeting your wife, she is so beautiful!!
