I’m Going to Start Tying the Merovingian Knot on My Ties

by Frank on June 29, 2009

Tell me this isn’t the coolest knot you’ve seen in a long time. I’ve been a Windsor knot man for a long while (although I do the occasional four-in-hand), but this Merovingian knot is something I’m going to use.

I’m doin’ it – for the three times a year I wear a tie. Very nice. Anything to be different but still within some bounds.

I have to say as a simple man who doesn't wear ties all that much, the knot thing really just befuddles me. I know how to tie one knot, and I do it reasonably well. I just can't wrap my head around the whole “this not is better than that knot” thing.

Like I said, I'm a simple man ;-)

Hey man, you're right…it's just a twist on a concept…and I love the style of it…I used to wear a tie every day, now it's more tie-dye. Still think the knot is groovy.

My husband learned how to do a Windsor knot a few years ago and I had no idea that there were so many ways to tie a knot on a tie. I think it's fascinating.

It's a nod to our vanity, I guess. I like ties…used to wear them all the time…now, not so much. But that knot looks cool. Thought you would get a kick out of it…you probably get it in a second with how great you are at knitting and stitching.

I totally do. If I were a guy I would be all over learning the different kinds of knots :)

Haven't worn a tie in years but it did look spiffy at the end.

I finally watched the video. It is blocked at work. I love tie knots but this is way,way too complicated for my aging brain.

The style I still see that I do not like at all is when the fat part of the tie is just draped over the top and not pulled through a knot at all.

I tried it. Luckily the paramedics were able to revive me with oxygen.

I'm sure you still have plenty of those spiffy ties. You can try out the new knot for your 50th. birthday.

Happy Birthday, to one of the coolest people I’ve never met!

Many happy returns of the day.
